Spring is about to spring, and it's time to get your seedlings up. "The Datil takes a while to germinate and start, so the best way to produce Datils for this summer is to get them started now," said Steve Craig, the Datilpower guy. "Most folks start them in a greenhouse, because they take some coddling to get up to four or five inches to get outside."
This is because the germination rate for the seeds is relatively low, and the small plants are quite delicate, needing frequent but small amounts of water and protection from low temperatures.
A few local nurseries in The Sacred Ground may have seedlings available for sale, but Datils are hard to find commercially unless you know where to go.
